Digital platform adds multi-business farm management feature

Hutchinsons has introduced a new Farm Entity feature within its Omnia digital farm management platform, designed to help users manage multiple farming enterprises, agreements or businesses from one account.

Developed in response to user feedback, the functionality allows separate enterprises within one holding to be treated as individual trading entities, improving reporting, compliance, stock control and day-to-day record keeping.

Chris Hoskins, digital services manager at Hutchinsons, says the development is aimed at businesses operating under more than one agreement or structure, while retaining the convenience of a single Omnia holding.

“Farm Entity has been developed for users who have multiple businesses within Omnia, such as contracting businesses or those with several farming agreements, and want to pull these out as separate entities within one Omnia holding or account,” he says.

Managing complex structures

Until now, fields and field groups within Omnia were held under a single business or holding. While users could filter maps and reports, management actions could not be linked directly to individual businesses within that account.

Farm Entity changes this by allowing individual fields to be assigned to specific field groups and managed as distinct trading entities within the wider Omnia account.

Compliance and stock benefits

For livestock enterprises preparing manure management plans or N-max audits, records can now be attributed at individual farm level rather than across the whole holding. This allows one Omnia account to manage separate audits for different businesses at the same time.

The feature is also expected to help arable businesses with rented land moving in and out of rotation, for example where potatoes are grown. Users can create a dedicated Farm Entity for rented ground and add or remove fields as circumstances change.

Farm Entity also supports stock management by linking fields to specific farms and stock centres, helping ensure fertiliser or crop protection products are drawn from the correct store and recorded accurately.

Simple activation

Hutchinsons says the feature is straightforward to activate. “It does not need extra support — it is just a switch,” says Mr Hoskins. “However, the Omnia support team is ready to answer any questions should they arise.”

Farm Entity is also recognised within the Scout app, allowing users to access and manage the feature while on the move.

The launch forms part of Hutchinsons’ continued development of Omnia as a platform to help farming businesses improve efficiency, record keeping and confidence in decision-making.
