Drill supplier KRM Ltd of Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire has introduced a new model to its range of direct seed drills.
KRM have been importing a range of seed drills from Spanish drill specialist, Sola, since 2012. The new Grass Seed (GS) model has been specifically designed for sowing directly into an existing grass sward using disc coulters.
The model is available for demonstrations now and will feature prominently during the upcoming show season.
The introduction of the new model is a natural progression and has been prompted by an increase in demand from growers moving to regenerative farming practices to improve the productivity of grassland, without taking it out of production for a significant period of time.
The specially designed direct grass coulters are rubber mounted for protection, and feature a large 400mm diameter, notched disc opener to cut through existing pasture.
The disc is mounted at a shallow, 5 degree angle to ensure minimum disturbance, and allow efficient closing of the seed slot.
1A “prizm” type roller follows the disc coulters and sets the sowing depth. The combination of 450mm fixed wheels and 500mm floating wheels are self-cleaning and consolidate the surface ensuring excellent seed to soil contact for rapid germination.
The new model is available with a choice of hoppers starting with a 300 litre, pressurised, single product hopper.
For those wanting more capacity, a 2000 litre hopper is available. This can be used solely for seed, or as an option can be ordered with a split hopper for both seed and fertiliser, allowing the two products to be independently metered and applied simultaneously.
Additionally, a Sola Mini Seed hopper can be mounted allowing a 3rd product to be metered and applied independently – this could be used for the addition of small seeds such as clover, micro granular fertiliser or for crop protection products.
In tough conditions where extra force is required to penetrate the ground, the tractor’s weight can be utilised via a hydraulic weight transfer system. This eliminates the need to add weights to the machine which allows a smaller tractor to be used resulting in less compaction and less fuel used.
KRM will be exhibiting the new GS300 at national shows this summer starting with the Cereals Event in June.
