For most farmers there are obvious advantages to running their tractors and other machinery on tracks – helping to reduce compaction, improve soil health and increase yields. But the cost of investing in a new piece of kit – especially at a time when farm gate prices are so volatile – is often difficult to justify.
Essex-based Brocks Wheel and Tyre (BWT), is now able to help, with the announcement of a new distributor agreement with track systems for farm vehicle manufacturer, Soucy.
The new agreement enables BWT to broaden its range with the further provision of custom made undercarriages, allowing farmers to convert conventional tractors to a tracked vehicle at the fraction of the cost of a new machine.
In addition to the Soucy undercarriages, BWT also supplies undercarriages from Poluzzi and tracks from Bridgestone, as well as its own-brand range of tracks. Replacement tracks will also be available, suitable for a wide variety of leading manufacturers including Case IH and John Deere.
Director Percy Brock said: “BWT is a long established family business and we’re looking forward to the next stage of our growth. Our new agreement with Soucy will open up a new service offering to our client base.
“Most farmers recognise the benefits of using tracks. A greater surface area means less downward pressure, greater flotation and improved stability. This in turn leads to less compaction, benefitting the overall health of the soil, improving drainage, and increasing yields.
“Improved traction can also result in fuel savings of up to 12.5% in some cases, while the extra grip can be the equivalent of adding 100hp – meaning a smaller tractor can do the work of a larger model but at a significantly lower cost.
“But buying a brand new tracked machine is expensive. Especially at a time when commodity prices are so low. It’s difficult to justify. Fortunately, the cost of our units bring the benefits of a tracked system within reach of many more farmers.
“When the cultivation work is finished, the tracks can be swapped back for the standard wheels in a day, allowing the tractor to be used throughout the year. “No modifications are required to fit the tracks, and the mounting brackets can be left in place when the tractor is running on wheels.”
