Farm management platform Omnia has added connections with machinery and software systems to reduce manual data transfer between services.
Omnia has introduced direct connections with John Deere, Claas Connect, FarmENGAGE — used for PTx and AGCO brands — and CNH FieldOps. Connections with TELUS and Dropbox are also available, while an integration with Xero accounting software is expected later this year.
Lewis McKerrow, Hutchinsons’ head of digital agronomy, said poor connectivity had long frustrated the industry as farms generated increasing volumes of data.
“Growers want simplicity and reliability, and the ability to focus on getting the job done rather than handling software,” he said. “In practical terms, this means simpler workflows, more accurate and traceable record-keeping, and less duplication of effort.”
Data transfers
Users can import into Omnia, export from it, or transfer in both directions field boundaries, application plans for seed, nutrients and sprays, and yield records. John Deere users can also transfer work plans.
John Deere, FarmENGAGE and CNH FieldOps support wireless transfer from Omnia to compatible machinery, allowing plans or prescriptions to be sent directly to tractors and sprayers. Yield data can synchronise automatically from John Deere and Claas Connect, while GPS boundaries can be moved between systems.
Omnia also provides manual export options in several file formats, enabling users without connected platforms to transfer files to machinery by USB drive.
Other integrations
The TELUS Farm Management connection allows field and cropping information to move between the two platforms and supports the import of spray plans from PDF files. Dropbox provides another route for transferring files.
McKerrow said Omnia was intended to act as part of a connected farm data system rather than generate every type of information itself. The aim, he said, was to let different services remain within the same workflow without requiring all parties to use one platform.
