McCormick, a brand of Argo Tractors – the international group based in Fabbrico (RE), Italy, presents the new X8.634 VT-Drive.
This will be the flagship model of the X8 range and a contender for the prestigious Tractor of the Year 2026 award.
Highlights of this new tractor include operator comfort, guaranteed by the newly designed Clever Cab, greater available power, and the DSM Plus (Data Screen Manager). This combines an innovative instrument cluster with the new 12” touchscreen monitor – both digital.
FPT Engine
The new McCormick X8.634 VT-Drive is powered by the 6-cylinder FPT N67 engine featuring an eVGT turbocharger. This is compliant with Stage V emission standards thanks to the HI-eSCR2 after-treatment system. The engine delivers up to 340 hp (regardless of the conditions), ensuring high performance, quiet operation, and comfort thanks to its suspended installation on elastic mounts. Radiator maintenance and cleaning are simplified and efficient. This is thanks to a bonnet opening of 90° and the Matrix Cooling System featuring a quick-release latch accessible via a single handle.
ZF Transmission
The X8.634 VT-Drive is equipped with the ZF TMT32 continuously variable transmission (CVT) with 4 electronically managed stages, combining smooth engagement of multi-plate oil-cooled clutches with planetary gear sets. Furthermore, it reaches a max. speed of 50 km/h in eco mode at just 1,580 rpm, and can move as slowly as 40 m/h for precision work.
The rear PTO of the tractor, with 3 selectable speeds (540ECO, 1000, 1000ECO), offers modulated, adjustable start-up and unlimited power, with a front PTO available as an option
Standard equipment includes the front axle with integrated brakes and the front suspension with a parallelogram system, electronically controlled from the multifunction armrest. The fully floating suspension is automatic above 15 km/h.
The sturdy Category 3 front hitch offers maximum versatility and a lifting capacity of up to 5,000 kg, while the rear hitch is capable of lifting up to 12,000 kg through quick couplers and additional cylinders. The closed-centre load-sensing hydraulic system (CCLS) delivers a flow rate of 212 l/min with a dedicated 115 l/min steering pump. In addition, up to 6 rear and 3 front EHR spool valves are provided and supplied through a separate circuit from the transmission, with a dedicated 90-litre tank.
The highlight is the Clever Cab. This is designed to provide greater glazed surface (+16%), increased interior volume (+14%) and height (+76 mm), with Comfort Sky®glass coating that reduces cab temperature by 6° and noise levels to 67 dB. The new Grammer seat adds a swivelling headrest, premium soft-touch finishes, and enhanced climate control. Ease of access is ensured by a 62 mm wider door opening and the repositioning of the handle in a more comfortable position. Also new are the rear window (larger for improved visibility), the rear-view mirrors, and the LED rear lights.
The cab is enhanced by the new DSM Plus (Data Screen Manager) system, featuring two 12” monitors (a digital dashboard instrument cluster and an armrest-mounted touchscreen) to allow full control of the tractor’s functions. These include the new generation of Precision Steering Management (PSM with RTK directly managed from the second screen), ISOBUS, and customisable menus such as MyFunction, MyLights, and hydraulic management. DSM Plus was developed by Argo Tractors’ R&D to be increasingly intuitive, user-friendly, and fully compatible with the latest-generation smartphones.
The comfort package includes the following: an Alpine DAB+ audio system with 7” touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, 4 Alpine speakers, ergonomic side consoles, air-conditioned storage compartments, and new LED headlights for maximum visibility.
The X8.634 VT-Drive has everything to deliver smart solutions for Agriculture 4.0. In fact, it integrates McCormick Fleet Management, Remote Diagnostics, and Farm Management, supporting fleet supervision, remote diagnostics, prescription maps, traceability, and sustainability (along with software updates). All this ensures continuous operation, minimal downtime, and complete control over operational efficiency.
The equipment is completed by the following systems: McCormick EazyGrip(for fully automatic tyre inflation and deflation), and the Central Grease System (which provides proportional automatic lubrication of the various grease points). All this reduces operating costs, increases efficiency, and protects the soil.
