With this year’s oilseed rape trials results in, Pinnacle has once again demonstrated its exceptional performance in the field.
The latest AHDB data shows Pinnacle coming out top of the conventional varieties for yield and output, reinforcing its reputation as a reliable high performing choice for growers across the UK. Pinnacle has recommendations for the East and West and as well as for the North on the AHDB recommended list.
The breeder of Pinnacle, Mike Pickford, reminds growers that being a conventional variety growers can save their own seed for one year, making considerable savings on inputs. He also points out the excellent agronomics of Pinnacle, with an 8 rating for lodging resistance and a 9 for stem stiffness. In this years AHDB RL trials Pinnacle has an early vigour score of 8.7 (scored on a 1-9 scale where 9 is excellent), this is equal or better than many hybrid varieties. “Many growers have found Pinnacle an easy variety to grow and as a consequence are returning to this variety once again,” says Mike.
Mike is an independent plant breeder focusing on conventional rape varieties particularly for UK conditions. His breeding philosophy follows a “Component Analysis Technique” to achieve a high harvest index by improving individual yield components, such as increasing seed size. “I also try to maintain clean green stems when ripening allowing more efficient photosynthesis during the ripening grain filling process.”
“The consistency of Pinnacle’s results continues to give growers confidence in its ability to deliver strong returns and outstanding agronomic performance season after season”, he says.
“For many growers oilseed rape was the best performing crop last year, and with the high price for this year’s harvest, it looks like it will produce a solid return for growers once again,” Mike says.
